Clarinet Masterclass

Lesley Schatzberger's serious musical journey started at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, after which she studied at the University of York and then, with Alan Hacker at the Royal Academy of Music.  She has been principal clarinet with the London Classical Players, English Baroque Soloists, Academy of Ancient Music and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, touring many times across Europe, the United States, and the Far East.  She was also a member of Stockhausen’s chamber group, taking part in many performances and recordings with him over a period of about 12 years. 

As well as being involved in hundreds of recordings with the groups already mentioned, chamber music discs include the clarinet quintets by Mozart and Brahms, Mozart’s quintet for clarinet, basset horn and strings, the Gran Partita, K361, the two Konzertstucke for clarinet, basset horn and piano by Mendelssohn, Schubert’s Shepherd on the rock, and Spohr’s Six German songs.  

 

She teaches at the University of York, by which she was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2006.  In 2020 she was awarded Honorary Membership of the Royal Northern College of Music.
